On the Path of Self-Discovery with Jeff Goins

Jeff Goins
“It’s natural to not be as good at work as you’d like yourself to be in the beginning. It only means you have excellent taste in your goals, and your talent hasn’t caught up yet.”
Jeff Goins

I’m committed to revealing light in the world in everything I do, including this podcast. I believe revealing light is in large part the reason why I’m here on this earth. But as my guest today, Jeff Goins so aptly puts it, every light casts a shadow. Jeff and I discussed how often we end up chasing the shadows rather than chasing the light. It’s easy to focus on your social media persona or keeping up with the neighbors, especially when that new Tesla shows up in their driveway. But are you ignoring the realities of your deeper life or what it truly takes to get that Tesla?

Jeff is the bestselling author of five books including The Art of Work and Real Artists Don’t Starve. He founded the Tribe Warriors writing community and has an award-winning blog. Jeff opens up about how his personal struggles gave him lessons and leadership. We discussed the shadow monsters of impostor syndrome, shame and trauma. Jeff says you can do really great things while still feeling incomplete. And while every writer can struggle when confronted by that blank page, Jeff’s story is both insightful and inspirational. And now on with the show.

Optimize your Meditation with Ariel Garten

Ariel Garten
“As we continue to practice and learn the trusted and proper methodologies and push ourselves in different directions, we continue to open up to life.”
Ariel Garten

I’ve always considered myself a pragmatic thinker. Breaking down how things work is fun and it makes sense. But on my journey of personal growth, I’ve had experiences that have challenged my mind to see a greater, more empowering view of life. I traveled to India and had a spiritual awakening. I met my soulmate. I’ve created a life I truly enjoy. Part of my love for biohacking and personal optimization, is it merges the scientific with the spiritual.

My guest, Ariel Garten, has done just that. She’s a neuroscientist, psychotherapist, and is the co-founder of Muse, the brain sensing headband that helps you meditate.

This episode we discuss her development of Muse and how the device helps you more effectively meditate by keeping you in a state of “focused attention.” We discuss the neurological, psychological, and spiritual benefits of meditation.

Like past guests Dr. Andrew Hill and Chris Keane, Ariel brings new insights and a few scientific shortcuts to get the most from meditation. So if you are still fairly new to meditative practices or on the path to Divine Oneness, this episode offers a fascinating insight into the deeper neurological processes at work when we meditate. So let’s get on with the show.

Detoxify Your Brain with Dr. David Perlmutter

Dr. David Perlmutter
“Our decision-making process is primarily influenced by the two different areas of the brain. It’s between the prefrontal cortex, which is involved in creating long-term goals, and the amygdala, the more primitive part that deals with impulse.”
Dr. David Perlmutter

Something I learned in my Kabbalah class is when you focus on darkness, you attract more darkness. When you focus on the light, you get more light. Our brains work similarly, in that they have an incredible amount of neuroplasticity that we can literally mold through our daily habits, whether it’s our sleeping, eating or consumption habits. We have the power to optimize them for better health and inner peace in our lives.

But we don’t always make the best lifestyle choices for our future, especially in this day and age of social media addiction, a culture of convenience providing apps that make everything and anything available in an instant and information overload.

Our poor eating and sleeping habits affect our prefrontal cortex, which is the area of our brain, which allows us to plan strategically for our future, have more empathy, and think more rationally. A poor lifestyle is fueling poor behavioral patterns, which ultimately lead to a poor state of overall emotional and physical wellbeing.

My guest today is Dr. David Perlmutter, a Board Certified neurologist and New York Times bestselling author of the books Brain Wash, Grain Brain, Brain Maker, and more. He serves on the Board of Directors and is a fellow of the American College of Nutrition. He’s also a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and has published extensively in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In addition, he is a frequent lecturer at symposia sponsored by institutions such as the World Bank and IMF, Columbia University, Scripps Research Institute, New York University, and Harvard University. He serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Join us as we take a closer look at the human brain and discuss ways you can rewire and reframe your mindset. Whether it’s weight loss, work-life balance, or maintaining good relationships, Dr. Perlmutter’s expert advice is incredibly valuable, but as he cautions in this episode, only if you take it and run with it.

Become Infinite with Sasha Daygame

Sasha Daygame
“Ego cannot manifest anything. It’s the soul.”
Sasha Daygame

A decade ago, I was a train wreck. I was recently divorced. I was socially awkward. I didn’t know how to talk to women. In fact, I was terrified to do so. I looked like a computer nerd who never saw the sun. Yeah, I was downright unattractive. Thankfully, I went through a metamorphosis. And the two men who started me on that path of reinvention were Tony Robbins and Neil Strauss.

How I got from there to where I am now was no small feat. Initially it was about mindset, then it was about physical transformation, but ultimately it was about spiritual growth. To say I am unrecognizable from my former self would be a huge understatement.

So how does one go from socially awkward to awakened? Well, today’s guest is going to illuminate that for us. His insights just might change your life as they have with his students and clients. Sasha Daygame is a visionary, renegade dating coach, and spiritual seeker. Sasha is also the founder of the Infinite Man Summit. He began as a standup comedian at the age of 17 and several years later got into self improvement. In 2008, he started Sasha Dating Systems to help men overcome their anxiety, improve their charisma, and form fulfilling personal relationships. He has personally coached thousands of men across five continents, as well as creating a cult following via his YouTube channel with over 12 million views.

More than just dating, Sasha’s teachings inspire men to create extraordinary lives by challenging societal and parental programming. In this episode, he and I talk about how you can break out of the matrix and start living powerfully and consciously. On with the show!

Living in the information age comes with a price. That price is overwhelm. We are drowning in data, and we desperately want to know who and what we can trust online. One of the biggest factors in our health is the food we eat. Honestly, how much of what you consume is nutrition-dense? Hey, I’m guilty too. But armed with some new, well-curated information, you’re about to get healthier, my friend. That’s because my guest for this episode 226 is David “Avocado” Wolfe.

“It’s such a thrill to empower others to own their freedom, get out there, and do something they love.”
Steve Glaveski

Are you born an entrepreneur? Or is it something that can be learned? If you take Steve Glaveski’s success as an indicator then it’s definitely the latter. BJ Fogg
“A lot of powerful things can be applied for good or bad. My vision is to help people see how to use things in a good way, and help them stay ahead.”
BJ Fogg

Whether you want to hit the gym, wake up earlier, quit smoking, or simply be more productive at work, behavior change can feel like pushing against a brick wall. Or worse, pushing a boulder up a mountain.

For entrepreneurs, the stakes are even higher. Your habits determine your behaviors, which determine your outcomes, which determines your business, which ultimately determines your destiny. Outside of his work at Stanford, BJ spends a good chunk of his time working with innovative businesses to apply his research to real world situations. As you may have guessed, BJ’s research has so many applications and everything from health to productivity to sales. In this episode, you’re not only going to learn about reprogramming your brain with awesome new habits, but you also get a crash course in the fundamentals of human behavior. You’re even going to learn about an important emotion that was up until recently unnamed until BJ named it.
